AI Camp for Future Innovators Recap In the summer of 2024, Webgyrlz Code had the opportunity to teach students in grades K-5 about machine learning and AI innovation as part of our AI Camp for Future Innovators made possible by the DODEA Summer Camp League in Partnership with Richland School District Two. It was an amazing experience that allowed students to learn a lot about artificial intelligence (AI). We had separate camps held for students in Kindergarten - 2nd grade and 3rd grade - 5th grade. Each camp was 2 weeks long. AI Camp for Future Innovators K-2 Camp, the students spent week 1 learning the basics of AI and machine learning and how to build use of blocks of code on the Scratch website. Week 2 was spent building a basic chatbot that would interact with the user and respond based on user input. We also learned that AI = Fake Smarts. Meaning we make it smart! AI Camp for Future Innovators 3-5 Camp spent week 1 learning the basics of AI and machine learning and how to build use of blocks of code on the Scratch website. They also learned from other AI-based Scratch projects the different code blocks that are needed to code a program that can “learn”. Week 2 the students focused on building their own chatbot from scratch or customizing an existing project to add AI functionality and user interactions.…
