Our after-school STEM programs deliver collaborative\, hands-on\, project-based learning through products like the LEGO® Learning System. \nThrough our live\, interactive group classes\, students learn the fundamentals of coding and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Learning computer programming helps prepare your child for the future\, regardless of the career path they end up choosing. \nOur summer STEM program…\n\nEngages students through project-based exercises\nEmploys collaborative problem-solving that involves all participants\nProduces results that reflect high levels of creativity and ownership\nPromotes college and career readiness\n\nBringing math & science to life with a LEGO® robot!\n\nBuild a LEGO robot for optimum navigation\nUse beams\, frames\, pins\, connector blocks\, and axles to create sturdy structures\nPlace and calibrate sensors for optimal robot functionality\nProgram a robot to respond to commands and react to different environments\n\nOur program will equip your child with confidence and critical skills valuable in any future career. Here at QCRA\, we want to do more than just teach coding. We want to inspire all girls and boys to use their talents and abilities to think outside the box\, to channel their ideas in a creative way and most importantly\, have fun! \nProgram Details\n\nThis in-depth program is ideal for students in grades 6-8\, and coding experience is optional and not required.\nCapacity is limited to ensure a team learning environment with small classes.\n4 days course meets on between 7/17-7/20 (Mon-Thu)\, 3 hours each day.\nStudents can choose from two identical offerings starting at 9 AM or 1 PM (some coding experience preferred for afternoon session; morning session open to all).\nHands-on\, in-person\, interactive group classes.\nCMS covers the cost and the class is free (but limited to CMS students only).\n\nHardware Requirements\nYou will need a device to operate the LEGO EV3 classroom app. Most laptops can operate this app. The easiest way to find out whether your computer will work is to download the app. Devices that can download and install the software will likely work. \nNeed a laptop?\nE2D sells high-quality refurbished laptops for typically around $100. \nQCRA can loan out a limited number of laptops for this course. Feel free to contact us at stemprogram@queencityrobotics.org to request a loaner laptop or if you have any questions or concerns about the hardware requirements. \nWaitlist\nA waitlist will be started once the program has reached the maximum number of participants. If a spot opens up\, participants will be notified in the order in which they were added to the list. Please contact stemprogram@queencityrobotics.org for questions regarding the waitlist or for more information about this or future classes. \nTransportation\nQCRA does not offer transportation at this time. Transportation is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian to transport students to the school and to see that the student gets safely to and from the classroom. \nMore Questions?\nFor questions regarding this event\, please feel free to reach us via email at stemprogram@queencityrobotics.org. \n  \nThe Fun Doesn’t Stop Here\nQCRA leverages FIRST Robotics to help youth learn life and workplace skills in teamwork\, technology\, business\, and communication. Our robotics programs combine the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology to help middle and high school-aged girls and boys learn to solve real-world problems. Our robotics teams design\, build\, and code robots that compete in an alliance format against other FIRST robotics teams. \nJoin one of our robotics teams to continue gaining STEM skills in a fun collaborative and encouraging environment. \n\n\n\n\nFor additional information about QCRA and what we do\, please visit our website! \nWould you like to support the cause and develop a “Lost Einstein”? Donate to help make a difference in your community.
