SUMMARY:Online: WordPress Help Desk
DESCRIPTION:Go here to schedule a call: https://optsus.com/wp-help-desk/ \nAs the pandemic wanes\, there is a “new normal” for the WordPress Help Desk. \nWordPress Help Desk events will be online as a 1-on-1 WordPress Help Desk call. \nTo schedule a 1-on-1 WordPress Help Desk call\, simply use the calendar found here: https://optsus.com/wp-help-desk/ \nConfused? Please read this entire description including the TLDR and FAQ sections to clear up any confusion about changes as this event has changed from in-person to online. \nWe look forward to helping you with WordPress. \n—-TLDR—- \nI’m adding to the description because some people have been confused by these events. The link above is for you to schedule the WordPress Help Desk 1-on-1 call. The available times are generally from 9 AM until 10 AM\, which is why this event is scheduled for that time. However\, this is not a group call. \nWhen the world shifted to hosting events from home\, back in March of 2020\, I tested this as a group call. As people received answers for their questions about WordPress\, they left the call. This frustrated the people who had to wait and listen to the other questions and answers during the call. I don’t want to waste everyone’s time in this way. \nAt an in-person event\, it’s possible to work in a group and ask questions as they come up. However\, this does not transition into a video conference call very well. Instead\, I have opened up my calendar to schedule 1-on-1 calls using the link above. We will focus on the one question you have about your website. \nThe reason this event is reoccurring here on Meetup is to let you know the WordPress Help Desk events are still available. Before the pandemic\, this was an event hosted in Raleigh once per month for two hours. Now\, this is a 1-on-1 video conference call scheduled for 20 minute blocks multiple times throughout the month. \nThere will be no link shared for a group call with this event. The WordPress Help Desk events have become 1-on-1 video conference calls which can be scheduled using the link above. \n—-FAQ—- \nWhere is the link to join the call? \n\nIf you are looking for a link to join a group call\, there isn’t one. These events have moved to 1-on-1 scheduled appointments. When you schedule your appointment\, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to join your 1-on-1 call.\n\nWhy can’t I get into the Zoom call? \n\nPlease check the date and time in the confirmation email for your scheduled 1-on-1 call\, after using the link above to schedule your 1-on-1 WordPress Help Desk call.\nAlso\, we use Google Meet for these calls. It’s similar to Zoom\, just a different brand of video calling.\n\nWhy is this event repeating each morning\, but there are no available appointment times this morning? \n\nThese calls are scheduled in advance. If there is no time available today\, you can book your call for the next available time.\n\nWhat is the point of having these events on Meetup if we are scheduling 1-on-1 calls with another calendar? \n\nThese events were held in-person with 20 – 50 people attending once per month. Since the pandemic forced these events to move online\, we have helped more people than we did in the past with in-person events. For this reason\, the WordPress Help Desk events will remain online using scheduled 1-on-1 calls. Use the link above to schedule your call for a convenient time.

SUMMARY:2023 Virtual Hackathon
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we host our 3rd Annual GDI Virtual Hackathon. This unique series offers learning events like panel discussions\, an introduction to “hacking\,” and collaboration with GDI community members from across the globe. \nIf you are interested in sponsoring or partnering with us on this event please email sponsorship@girldevelopit.com \nWhat is a Hackathon? \nA hackathon is an event in which programmers\, graphic designers\, content strategists\, interface designers\, and project managers collaborate intensively on projects. \nOr as we like to call it: an event where people work together to find new (sometimes inelegant) solutions to a problem. \nWho should attend? \nIf you’ve ever taken a GDI class\, jumped into an online tech tutorial\, or joined other coding events\, this is a great opportunity to take the skills you’ve learned and apply them to a collaborative project working with like-minded individuals. But even if you haven’t attended any tech bootcamps or coding events\, you’re absolutely welcome to join! Beginners and the tech-curious are especially encouraged to attend\, as are experienced technologists who are interested in sharing their knowledge and skills while working on projects that they are passionate about. \nWe are also inviting companies to join our event as a sponsor.  Learn more.  \nWhat will this event look like? \nThis event will kick off with a series of pre-Hackathon events including: \n\nHackathon Info Session\nInstallathon to upload and learn about tools\nMentor Session to be paired for support\nIdea Generation and Team Formation\n\nThe event will then kick off on Wednesday\, November 8th\, with events\, presentations\, and an awards ceremony running through Saturday\, November 11th. \nIn addition to hacking collaboratively with your team\, participants are welcome to join: \n\nPanel discussions\nSkills workshops\nCareer networking\nOffice hours\n\nHow to attend? \nWe have two registration options: \nAttendee: Join to be placed with a hacking team; or choose to participate in the panel discussions and presentation events. \nMentor: Support our teams\, workshops\, and events. Mentors can build their own schedules and support teams when it works best for them. Mentors are required to attend a brief information session. \nWhat do you need to participate? \nNo much! Just an interest to learn\, create and engage with our community. Our basic requirement is access to a computer with the option to join a video conference. We will be hosting an information session a week before the event to answer questions and make sure you are comfortable with the event. We will also be hosting: \n\nAn Install-athon to make sure you have access to the software you will need\nAn Idea Generation & Team Formation event to ensure you have time to share your events and build teams\nA Git & Github for hackathons event to learn how to collaborate on code with version control\n\nInterested in doing more? \nWe are looking for Sponsors to help support the event and provide prizes to our teams. We are also looking workshop presenter.  Propose a workshop here.  \nCode of Conduct \nThe GDI mission is focused on providing opportunities for women & non-binary adults to learn web and software development\, but our classes and events are open to all genders and identities. We are dedicated to providing a welcoming and comfortable environment for all to learn to code and every attendee is expected to uphold our Code of Conduct (http://www.girldevelopit.com/codeofconduct). \n\n\n\nExplore GDI Memberships \nWant More from GDI? GDI offers a variety of ways you can join our community! Whether you are brand new to tech or want to advance the experience you’ve already racked up\, we have something for you. When you join as a member\, you develop your own pathway to develop code\, confidence\, and community. If you just want to get your feet wet or want a personal coach to land your dream job\, GDI has memberships to match your interest\, availability\, and budget. Learn more here.
